Walking

Ardnamurchan Ariundle OakwoodsLochaber offers some of the most scenic, diverse and interesting walking landscapes in the Highlands. There are walks to suit all tastes, interests and fitness levels. Whether you are walking to spot wildlife, aiming to climb a Corbett or Munroe, challenging yourself on a long distance trek, seeking a deserted beach or abandoned settlement, taking a historical or geological tour, or just looking for a gentle stroll, the region has it all. In addition, there are guided walks (general and themed) on offer throughout the season.

Moidart Smirisary walkThe Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 allows the public a responsible right of access to open land in Scotland.  The Act stipulates that you should behave responsibly at all times, do not interfere with the rights and activities of the landowner and show consideration for others and care for the environment.  You should also be aware that many estates offer deer stalking at certain times of the year (between 1st July – February 15th) and this may force the closure of areas or walking routes.  Details should be posted at walk access points and local tourist information centres.

Peanmeanach, Ardnish, Morar

Given the remoteness of the area, the nature of the terrain and difficulty of some of the walks, it is important that you dress appropriately, have the correct equipment, guides and OS maps and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and the safety advice given.  Please see the link on left hand side for full details.

Please refer to the map link for walking locations and summary details of the various walks.  Full details of each walk are available from the books and walking guides listed below and tourist information centres.
